Have you noticed that now-a-days sex is everywhere? According to the Ohio State University research team, Men generally think about sex 19 times a day and women 10 times a day on average. Some respondents in the study had a recorded thought of sex every 2 minutes! This study shows us that sex has taken over our very lives! With fast and easy access to pornography and casual hook-ups, this generation has quickly developed a desensitization to sex. This can have serious effects on one's health and psyche.
The problem is not having sex, the issue is the age of the "sex-havers" and the types of sex they're having. Most girls who start having sex early are most likely to engage in abusive relationships and partake in abusive sex habits. Some women report to enjoying mutilation during sex like choking and experiencing other forms of pain. Let's get real y'all, that's not okay at all neither is it signs of a healthy relationship.
But where can the beginning of the problem be pinpointed? One word, media. Research shows that children who become sexually active by 13 are at higher risk of unprotected sex and use of drugs and alcohol before sex; which results in STDs and unwanted pregnancies. More than 66% of boys and 40% of girls after recorded, wanted to try sexual behaviors they saw in the media and social media according to the research by Dr. Jennings Bryant.
With Instagram's ban on nudity no being as effective since approving- or not reprimanding visible breasts, more and more users are inclined to post sex scenes, sex memes or photos of celebs or even themselves topless.
So the question is, why does this generation feel the need to over sexualize themselves? Especially as women, what has happened to us that we only see our value in our naked bodies? For the young women and teen girls who are looking for men's affirmation, do they really achieve love and proper attention by taking off their clothes? And what about the young men and teen boys? If all we show them is our bodies why would they pay attention to anything else? How will they know that we have anything else to offer? Do you have anything else to offer?
When women make themselves sexual objects that's all they can ever be, nothing more. And men, when you take off her clothes whether it's physical or in your mind, you're partaking in dehumanizing her and damaging your mind. It's time to stop blaming the lame excuse of "I'm a man I can't help it" If you're truly a man you can control your actions. Being susceptible to sex addiction and having a hard time maintaining a healthy relationship is no laughing matter.
Giving up on casual sex and sexual images is not easy, with almost 60% of the advertisements using sexual content online and television it's hard to escape. But it's not impossible. Music you listen to on the way to school or work that contains sexual lyrics continue to resonate with you throughout your day. Limiting what you watch and listen to can be the beginning of a healthy mind and sex life for the future.
